PhD Students

Yuhan is a PhD student in physics at the University of Rochester. She received her Bachelor's degree in Physics from Soochow University in 2020. Her research focuses on quantum optics.

Supun is a graduate student at the University of Rochester pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2022. His research focuses on Integrated Photonics.

Arunima is a PhD student at The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from the Manipal University, Jaipur, India, in 2023. Her research focus is on nanoscale lasers and integrated photonics.

Hayden is a graduate student pursuing his PhD at the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. He earned his Bachelors degree in Physics and Math from Clarkson University. His PhD journey started in the Boyd Lab, but after taking a leave of absence, he has joined the Cardenas Lab. He is interested in nonlinear optics and his research focuses on coupling light and sound on an integrated photonic chip.

Justin is a PhD student at The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Photonic Science and Engineering at the University of Central Florida in 2024. His research interests include integrated photonics and its applications.

Michel is a PhD student in Physics at the University of Rochester. He received his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Lebanon Valley College in 2022, after which he worked at L3Harris as an Image Science Engineer until 2024. His research interests lie at the intersection of quantum measurement theory and quantum optics.

Ramiro is a PhD student at The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Cyber Security from the University of North Georgia in 2023. His research focus is on Integrated Photonics.

Tengqian is a PhD student at The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. He earned his B.Sci. in Optical Engineering with a minor in Business from The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester in 2025. He is interested in researching the theories behind integrated photonics and its applications.
